This was a book cover design project, for a series of 30 books that were listed as Penguin Classics. The intent was to do a round of special edition covers for avid readers to collect & also attract the attention of a fresh readership. This was also an opportunity very dear to me having grown up reading most of these titles.

Considering the fact that the target readership was very large, I realised that the key to the cover art lay in simplicity. Avoiding the most obvious symbols of the book done to death over the years, I chose to celebrate the ones hidden away. Symbols that become a keen treasure hunt for a new reader & offer a smile in the mind to the ones who know what they mean. The challenging bit of the visual treatment was executing the raw & unrestrained brush strokes without losing out on the integrity of the visual metaphor.
